Wealth Manager, Succession and Exit Strategist
Richard's knowledge and experience have given him the skills to make complex financial and business decisions clearer and easier. Richard specialises in helping business owners develop exit strategies and succession plans, often, at retirement. He routinely works with both sellers and acquirers and has developed a sound understanding of the issues around business transfers.
Starting his working life in the construction industry, he spent 10 years in managerial positions before launching his own development company. He later worked as a corporate adviser for a major insurance company before setting up Chadwicks. He has held board positions in companies in the construction, property, horticulture and financial services sectors and has a deep understanding of the risks and rewards of business life.
He is interested in business development, in particular how knowledge is managed within companies. He conducted a detailed research project into the factors that influence the success of business transfers in association with the University of East Anglia as part of his MBA. Richard also holds a Masters in Wealth Management and the Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning. He is also interested in Behavioural Economics which he has studied at post-graduate level. Unusually, he is both a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investments and a Chartered Financial Planner.
He sits on the UEA School of Economics Strategic Advisory Board and is a former School Board member of the Norwich Business School. He is also a trustee of the Norfolk Community Foundation and during the Covid crisis launched The Sounding Board, a not-for-profit resource for businesses that aims to raise £50,000 to help alleviate food poverty.
Married to Yvonne for over 40 years they have three children, three grandchildren and Louis the labradoodle. After finally hanging up his boots shortly after his 62nd birthday, he is proud to be President of Norwich Union RFC. He also confesses to be a Middle-Aged Man in Lycra and has cycled from Lands End to John O'Groats - completing the 1000 mile trip in 10 days as part of a team that raised £150,000 for charity.
